Going beyond traditional shades and breaking down barriers between blush, shadow, and liner, makeup this fall comes in a whole spectrum of Fauvist colors. Although these shades may appear daunting at first, they can add a fresh element if you ignore the conventional rules of application. Think of your face as a blank canvas and create your own work of art. After all, who says that eye shadow has to go on the eye, or that red is an inappropriate color with which to line them? Designers themselves played with unconventional makeup at the fall shows: Viktor & Rolf set off their bed-inspired creations with pink eye shadow, and John Galliano contrasted his 1930s Hollywood fantasy with modern graphic rectangles of green and purple on both the brow and the cheek--colorful, eccentric, and straight out of a box of Crayolas.
